Humpty Doo angler Darren Kenny has done it again, reeling in his second $10,000 barramundi of Million Dollar Fish Season 12 and taking his winnings this season to $20,000.
Darren was fishing with his son at Hardies Lagoon on Tuesday 13 October when he landed the 65cm red-tagged barra, the third winning fish caught this season. This catch follows his first win on 2 October and adds to a $10,000 fish he caught in Season 11.
The father-and-son duo have been fishing Hardies Lagoon regularly, including before the competition began, with Darren crediting patience, perseverance and practice for their success.
Spotting another red tag sparked disbelief and excitement, followed by high-fives and hugs as the pair celebrated the latest catch.
Adding to the remarkable result, Darren caught the barra on exactly the same lure as his first winning fish this season, although he is keeping the details of his lucky lure a secret.
Darren plans to split the $10,000 equally with his son, honouring an agreement they made to share any prize money won while fishing together. His share is going straight towards the holiday fund.
Announced on National Barramundi Day, Darren’s latest win is another reason to celebrate the Territory’s iconic barra fishing experiences, with a day on the water delivering both family memories and a $10,000 reward.
Official charity partners Surf Life Saving NT will also received $1,000 thanks to the catch, bringing its total contribution from winning fish this season to $3,000.
There are still 97 red-tagged barramundi worth $10,000 to be caught out there, along with the elusive one barramundi carrying the ultimate prize tag of $1 million.
Season 12 of Million Dollar Fish runs until 31 March 2027. Anglers must be registered to claim any prize money. Registration is free and automatically enters participants into the monthly prize draw. Register now at www.milliondollarfish.com.au.
