A birthday celebration has turned into double delight for Darwin angler Loren Hanton, who reeled in a $10,000 red-tagged barramundi on the weekend – and thanks to the Million Dollar Fish Reel of Fortune, walked away with $20,000.
As part of the November Reel of Fortune incentive, the Weekend Fisho challenge doubled the prize for the first $10,000 red-tagged fish caught on a weekend in November. Loren landed the lucky 63cm barra at Yellow Water in Kakadu National Park on Sunday, 2 November during a family trip celebrating her dad’s birthday.
“It’s brilliant – absolutely brilliant,” Loren said. “We thought it might be the $20,000 if no one had called in before me, and when it was confirmed – oh my god – it changes a few things!
“This trip was actually to take my father out for his birthday, and so it was a bit of a family fishing trip. And there was my brother and my dad. They were in one boat, my partner and I were in the other boat, and we had already fished two days before this.”
This marks Loren’s second Million Dollar Fish win, after reeling in a red-tagged $10k fish in Season 9, proving lightning really can strike twice at Yellow Waters.

The new Reel of Fortune twist has added an exciting element to Million Dollar Fish Season 11, with new challenges and bonus incentives revealed monthly.
So far this season, $110,000 in prize money has been awarded, with official charity partner Surf Life Saving NT also receiving $10,000 through $1,000 donations made for every $10,000 fish caught.
There are still 90 red-tagged barramundi worth $10,000 and an incredible 11 tagged fish carrying a $1 million tag are active – nine from Season 9, one from Season 10, and one from Season 11.
The next Reel of Fortune incentive will be announced on 1 December 2025.
