Australia's richest fishing competition is back, with Season 12 of Million Dollar Fish officially launching and offering anglers the chance to reel in a life-changing $1 million prize in the Northern Territory's iconic Top End waterways.
One red-tagged S12 barramundi carrying the coveted $1 million prize is now swimming through Top End rivers and estuaries, alongside 100 additional S12 red-tagged barra each worth $10,000.
The competition, which runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, has become one of the Territory's biggest tourism drawcards, attracting tens of thousands of anglers each year while showcasing the region's world-class fishing experiences.
By registering for Season 12, anglers will also be automatically entered into monthly prize draws featuring Top End escapes, Airnorth flight vouchers, Shimano fishing packs and exclusive Million Dollar Fish merchandise.
This year's major registration prize is an Arnhem Land fishing adventure, including a four-day, three-night stay at Dhipirri Barra & Sportfishing Lodge and two nights in Darwin.
Anglers will have even more ways to win this season, with the popular Double the Dough, Size Matters and Fish with Mates bonus promotions returning from November 2026 through to March 2027.
A new charter incentive has also been introduced, allowing registered participants who catch a $10,000 tagged barra on an eligible Tourism Top End fishing charter between December 2026 and March 2027 to double their winnings to $20,000.
Beyond the prize money, the competition also delivers a meaningful contribution to local communities. Every time a $10,000 tagged fish is caught, $1,000 is donated to the competition's official charity partner. If the million-dollar fish is landed, a further $10,000 is donated.
More than $119,500 has been donated to Territory charities since the competition began.
Surf Life Saving Northern Territory returns as the official charity partner for Season 12, with General Manager Sarah Fisher welcoming the continuation of the partnership.
"Million Dollar Fish continues to make a real difference in the Territory, and Surf Life Saving NT is proud to be part of it again this season."
"This partnership strengthens our work right across the Top End, helping us deliver essential water safety programmes for locals and visitors enjoying our coastlines, rivers and waterways."
Free registrations are now open, with anglers required to be over 18 and registered to be eligible for prizes.
